Several years ago, I drove cross country to help my mom as she and my 7 or 8 youngest siblings at the time moved from Maine to Idaho. As we drove across Iowa, I would randomly yell “Look! More corn!” to one of my brothers over the walkie talkies we kept in each car. Remaining completely unteaseable, he would reply “yes, I see it.”

I don’t deny Iowa’s right to make a living by growing corn, but does the nation really need that much? After reading about the pollution dumped by biodiesel plants and watching the news story on “King Corn” in which 50% of the host’s carbon came from corn, I think I agree with my opinion the day we drove across Iowa. There is too much corn in America.

I bet most of it is Roundup-ready too, creating even more super-weeds.
